We have recently received two letters in respect of clients with a registered office at our address. They are headed up “Publication of companies and VAT Registration Numbers in the UK Corporate Portal 2015”
The letter purports to refer to changes in EU legislation requiring publication of VAT numbers on various documents and databases. Enclosed with the letter is a form requesting the up to date information on the company, and asking you to sign and fax the information back to them.
Only by reading the small print at the bottom is it clear that the form constitutes an order, which binds you into paying £797each year for a minimum of three years. At the end of that initial period then to cancel it thereafter you need to do so by registered letter three months before the order expiry date.
We strongly advise you to file the letter and accompanying order in the nearest recycling bin!
This same scam was doing the rounds earlier in the year. It seems that they are having a second bite of the cherry.
